Eng. Sameh Fahmi, Minister of Petroleum, accompanied by General/ Seif El Din Galal, Governor of Suez, visited installation and completion of production lines of the first factory to produce and manufacture onshore drilling rigs on 19/1/2008, at the industrial zone in Al Ein Al Sokhna at Suez, with Egyptian – Chinese investments reaching about $ 30 million. During his visit, Eng. Fahmi, witnessed the completion of producing and manufacturing the first onshore drilling rig "Mubarak - 1", for the first time in the history of Egypt and Africa with a capacity of 2000 horse power. It will be in charge of oil and gas exploration in the Eastern Desert area.
The factory comprises two production lines; the first for collecting, equipping and testing; the second for manufacturing components, which will start this month parallel to construction works, carried out by Petrojet as a general contractor. Mubarak -1 rig is considered one of the three drilling rigs that had been contracted with Sino Tharwa Co. The other two rigs will be produced by next March. Production capacity of the factory will be expanded gradually to reach 20 drilling rigs by 2011.
