Capillary Pressure & Electrical Resistivity Measurements of Berea Sandstone in Gas/Brine System
Paper Abstract 5/22/2005

This paper presents the results of capillary pressure and electrical resistivity measurements for Berea sandstone core specimens. Also experimental data of resistivity index, formation resistivity factor, tortuosity, capillary pressure, and cementation factor and water saturation exponent in the air/brine system for Berea sandstone are reported. The electrical resistivities data are evaluated using the modified Archie’s law, including the cementation factor, the saturation exponent and the tortuosity of the specimens. These parameters are related to each of the capillary pressure and pore size distribution curves. Results show that electrical resistivity data provides important information’s for the estimation of oil reservoir model parameters (irreducible water saturation). However the same data needs to be carefully analyzed to avoid interpretation errors. The effect of percolation on different results is determined and interpreted.

Keywords: Berea sandstone, impedance spectra, electrical resistivity, unsaturated, formation factor, resistivity index, porous plate method, capillary pressure, centrifuge saturation, pore size distribution, wettability.
